
Sales Engineer Position

POSITION OVERVIEW:
This is a full-time role in our Sales Department, reporting to the President. For this role, you’ll need to live in or near Greenville, South Carolina and be willing to travel to customers in North America (US, Canada, and Mexico) approximately 25% of the time. Typical hours for this role are 8:00pm to 5:00pm but vary widely because we need to be available for the customer on their schedule. The work is very flexible and remote work is permitted. On occasion there is a need to work additional hours and weekends.
MISSION:
The mission of the Sales Engineer is to sell machines. Machine sales are the lifeblood of the organization and generate future work for the Service Department in the form of installations, service calls, and spare parts sales. While many leads are generated through marketing, the Sales Engineer should have a pro-active approach to sales and work to generate leads and develop a healthy pipeline of potential customers.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Sales Engineer will have the following primary responsibilities:
● Identify target customer lists and develop a plan to generate meetings which could result in new machine sales
● Work with Marketing to develop customer outreach which could generate leads
● Build trustworthy relationships with potential customers
● Clarify inquiries, qualify potential customers, and review technical feasibility of customer requests
● Demonstrate an understanding of what the customer will need in terms of on-going service and manage expectations on the customer and sales side.
● Develop and deliver product demonstrations and sales presentations that explain key technical aspects of solutions that will benefit customers.
● Recommend machines to customers, showing how changes will lowers costs or increase production.
● Calculate prices and create customer quotes
● Identify customer objections, negotiate, and close deals
● Willingness to travel and devote long hours to challenging sales projects.
● Research the industry on an on-going-basis to know what changes may be on the horizon that will impact current and future sales.
PROFICIENCIES:
● Hunter Mentality: Finding new customers is needed to keep the shop running, so the ideal Toll Processing Sales employee will have the “hunter mentality” which drives this customer acquisition. The ideal sales employee will be self-motivated and self-directed with a pro-active approach to sales.
● Communication Skills: This position requires regular customer contact, so success is often determined by communication skills. Superb interpersonal skills including the ability to quickly build rapport with both customers and suppliers is a major factor for success. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong time management skills are also a necessity.
● Passion for Sales: The sales employee should be passionate about selling and finding ways to satisfy customers’ needs. This includes the ability to work under pressure, resilience, and a willingness to deal with rejection.
● Persuasiveness: Excellent negotiation skills are needed to close deals. The sales employee should be persuasive and goal oriented. This includes responding to objections and complaints.
REQUIREMENTS:
● Education: High School Diploma or GED. Bachelor’s degree preferred
● Experience: Previous past success in machine sales, preferably in the steel industry. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and a CRM.
● Physical: Ability to lift up to 55 pounds. Able to sit, walk, move around for long hours at a time.
