The name Wirtgen stands for sheet metal parts with high vertical integration. In order to maintain this level of real net output ratio, the technology leader in road construction from Windhagen relies on the EdgeRacer® deburring machine from ARKU made by Wöhler. The first system was commissioned in 2012 and the second system expanded the machine park in 2015. Wirtgen manufactures and processes almost all of the sheet metal parts in-house. “That is why we have to be able to rely absolutely on our machines”, emphasizes the Department Manager Jörn Menzenbach. “Of course, the same also applies to the deburring machines.”
Before the laser-cut sheet metal parts are coated, the EdgeRacer® deburrs and rounds the edges. This enabled Wirtgen to switch from wet coating to the environmentally-friendly powder coating process. In addition, the EdgeRacer® processes both sides of the material, up to 20 mm thick sheet metal partsin thickness, it is also distinguished by its short lead times and intuitive control system. “I wish that all of the machines operated around the clock with so few problems while delivering such optimum quality results”, emphasizes Menzenbach.
